Created by Roger Holdsworth, who is a co-founder of SHL in 2006, Talent-Q offers various psychometric and reasoning tests in a bid to help companies recruit the best talents for job openings. The tests are available for over 40 languages, and they have been used for recruitment purposes all over the world in at last 50 countries. The tests have been used by Volkswagen, Carlsberg and other top companies worldwide. The Talent Q Assessment Tests have also been accredited by the Chartered Banker Institute and the British Psychological Society.
Format of the Talent Q Assessment Tests?
The Talent Q Assessment includes the Dimensions personality profiling test, the Aspects assessment test, the Situational Judgement Task, and the Elements Logical Reasoning, Elements Verbal Reasoning and Elements Numerical Reasoning tests. The Elements tests are adaptive, so the next question depends on how a candidate answered the previous question. If you get a question correctly, you get a tougher question next. If you answer a question wrong, you get an easier question next.
Talent Q Dimensions Personality Profiling Tool
The Dimensions Personality Profiling Tool is a personality assessment test that can be completed in 25 minutes or less. In the test, you’ll be given 160 questions that you rate on a scale of ‘Strongly Agree,’ to ‘Strongly Disagree.’ The Dimensions personality profiling tool tries to provide an insight into how individuals will work and how they will manage other people. It also tries to profile how people will expend their energy and manage their emotions. The Dimensions personality profiling tool focuses on three broad areas of ‘Drives and Emotions,’ ‘Tasks and Projects,’ and ‘People and Relationships.’
The results of the Dimensions Personality Profiling Tool is presented in the form of a comprehensive report that includes a sales report, a trait profile, a narrative report, a type report and a detailed report.
Talent Q Aspects Assessment Test
The Talent Q Aspects Assessment test is a competency-based test that evaluates candidates for certain aspects or competencies needed for a job role. The Aspects Assessment Test usually takes between 5 to 10 minutes to complete. It typically contains two tables with given information with one table to be cross-checked with another table. You have to detect errors in both tables quickly. The test is usually used for high volume recruitment in positions like sales, customer service, customer support etc.
The Talent Q Styles Assessment Test
This is in the form of a Styles competency-based questionnaire which is similar to the Myers Briggs test. It uses a 16-personality trait system like the Myers Brigg test.
Situational Judgement Test
The Talent Q Situational Judgement Test or SJT is a test that measures several factors needed for candidates to be successful in a specific job opening. The test will reflect the scenarios and situations that employed candidates will typically face. The SJT measures attitude, organizational values, preferred behaviour, motivation etc.
You will be given some scenarios along with some reactions to these scenarios. You are to pick the reaction that appeals best to you. The test seeks to measures how you react to various scenarios and how you reason in situations.
Elements Verbal Reasoning Test
The Elements Verbal Reasoning Test measures your proficiency in verbal reasoning. It evaluates how capable you are of understanding written information and evaluating arguments based on the information. It tests your deductive reasoning based on passages. Passages typically consist of professional text. The Elements Verbal Reasoning test consists of 15 questions to be answered in 15 minutes. You will be asked to read some comprehension passages and answer questions based on them. There are two sections namely: the intermediate and the hard section.
Elements Numerical Reasoning Test
The Elements Numerical Reasoning Test measures how capable you are of understanding tables, numerical logic and your overall numerical reasoning capability. The Elements Numerical Reasoning Test has 12 questions to be answered in 12 minutes. You will be given numerical data tables, and you will be asked to understand the data, analyze the data, and make inherent conclusions from the data.
Elements Logical Reasoning Test
The Elements Logical Reasoning Test evaluates how capable a candidate is of making logical/deductive deductions. The Talent Q Element Logical Reasoning Test has 12 questions to be answered within 9 minutes. Candidates are given a series of symbols and shapes, and they will be asked to recognize patterns. You can be asked to recognize to identify the next image based on a series of images.
Not all candidates will write all the three Elements test as some organizations select tests that are relevant to job openings alone.
What’s the Difference Between Talent Q and Korn Ferry Tests?
They go hand in hand but Korn Ferry is a management consulting firm that purchased Talent Q in 2014. Talent Q specializes in numerical, logical, and verbal tests that help determine if candidates are the right fit for large companies and corporations. How to Prepare for the Talent Q Assessment Test?
Take practice tests: It is advisable that you take Talent Q practice tests to prepare you for the real thing. You can check out Talent Q dedicated website for practice tests and advice on doing well in their tests. The practice test will push your scores up and make you familiar with the tests.
Work greatly on your timing: The timing factor is the most negative factor that affects people taking the Talent Q Assessment test. You have to be fast when writing the numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning and logical reasoning tests or you won’t finish on time. Take the practice tests under strict personal timing. Work on finishing in less than the 15 minutes allocated for the tests. This will make you faster when writing the real thing.
